December Rain

We had 1.13 inches of rain today. 

This is the front yard...

Suppose this were snow..

The grass around the drain is quite green. 

The stones that we walk to cross the creek are covered!

Upstream of the crossing.

The stream is out of its banks. 

2018 is the third wettest year for south west Ohio 

since records began in 1871.

There has been 55.49 inches of rain this year. 

In 1880, this area had 54.67" of rain.

That total was in third place; now is in fourth.

The 1952 356 Porsche

John traded his Yamaha motorcycle for this 1952 Porsche in the early to mid-1960's.

Sometime in the late 1960's, the Porsche was sold to a high school classmate
who was an industrial arts teacher.
The plan was to have the students restore the car.
Might/might not have happened.
The car changed hands and remained in storage for some twenty or so years.
It was then purchased and restored by a man in Minnesota who trucked it to shows.
Just recently, it has been purchased by a man who lives in Spring, Texas.
Siegfried Meissner has traced the history of the car using its serial number.
 "I know that the car was purchased by an American officer in Germany in 1952, with last name Waldner . As far as I know the car has been living in the Mid West of the US ever since it returned from Germany."
The Porsche is once again Adriatic Blue.

Update on Ice Storm

These are the logs from the Bradford Pear tree branches 

that were knocked down in the ice storm. 

'Slave labor' was used for stacking the first layers. 

The brush pile that will be burned in January.

Smaller branches from the Bradford pear limbs are in front of the brush pile. 

More work to be done.

December Rain

The most rain has fallen today in recorded history. We recorded 1.44 inches!

A Winter Walk in November

In spite of the chilly temperatures - 25 degrees - and the snow

the oak tree still has its leaves. 

We walked out back. 

I needed a picture of me exercising outside for the 

Fitness Center's annual "Punch Challenge."

Members 'earn' a T-shirt by completing 12 of the 18 challenges 

and receiving a 'punch' for each on the Holiday card.

Oh, and maintain your weight over the Holidays.

 

John in his warm coveralls and furry hat. 

He cut a few honey suckle branches away from the paths. 

Paths that had icy branches of honey suckle obscuring the view. 

Branches from our Bradford pear trees. 

John cut up a trailer load of wood.

He used 'slave labor' to load and unload the wood. 

Looks like there may be some more to cut.

The back hoe idled by the cold temperatures and the snow.

High temperature today: 28 degrees. 

The sun was out for a short time.

The Next Job

Our neighbor across the street has a leaky water line. 

He asked to borrow the back hoe.

John let him operate the back hoe, Tom has done this before. 

This is the Friday after Thanksgiving; a warm, sunny day. 

Janet and I are watching the men at work. 

John cleaned the mud out of the bucket. 

A real mess!

Tuesday, we had a dusting of snow with temperatures in the middle 20's. 

Work has temporarily ceased. 

Tomorrow is a new day.
